Honda Activa launched a one of its kind, #ActivIndia campaign during the election season to encourage more and more people to cast their votes to make a difference. It prompted citizens to realize that they are the ones who can give the “desh chalane ka license” - the license to run the country and throng the booths in the 2019 general elections.
India is known to be the largest democracy in the world yet there is major apathy among the citizens of the country when it comes to exercising their right to vote. #ActivIndia reached out to the citizens in many cities across the country to know their opinions about the elections and voting. The youth came up with various suggestions to ensure an increase in the voter percentage and the experts discussed how important the participation of the citizens during elections is for the development of the country.
Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. talks about the campaign and its success in persuading the Indian population to turn out in large numbers at the polling booths. There was a lot of focus on the youth as there were many first-time voters in the 2019 general elections. Today, the youth is more educated and aware of his surrounding, they also want to make their opinions on major issues heard on larger platforms. The campaign provided them with a chance of expressing their vision about the political scenario in India and also in strategizing ways to ensure maximum voter participation.
The motto of the campaign was to convince the citizens that it is them to hold the right to give a representative the license to run the country. Attaining the age of 18 makes a citizen empowered to make decisions for his nation, but the citizen must be aware of his rights to make a change. The citizens of the largest democracy should always be aware of the progress their opinions and votes can make.
“India is the world’s largest democracy and during general elections, the world watches us closely. When we thought of this campaign, we wanted the main purpose to be simple. To persuade voters to use their most important right, their right to vote. If citizens actively participate in the development and progress of the nation, only then we can become an Active India.” - Yadvinder Singh Guleria (Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd.)
The campaign also spread the message that is “Koi Seat Na Jaaye Khali” - campaign urged the citizens to take another person while going to cast their votes, ensuring larger voter participation and also bridging the gaps like lack of transportation for many citizens.
The Honda #ActivIndia urged more than 6.2 million citizens to pledge to vote in the general elections and its campaign like this that ensured a hike in the voter percentage during the 2019 General Elections.
